Few newspapers have survived for so long as this local newspaper. The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser has become synonymous with stories of locals, some of them still living in this Great Karoo town and others that have moved to other parts of South Africa and the world.

The stories that have been printed on the pages of this newspaper form part of history as we know it. The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser was published in 1860 for the first time and it is still in operation today.

Famous locals who have been mentioned in its articles include Anton Rupert, Chris Barnard, Govan Mbeki and Beyers Naude.
